National Workshop on “Role of Media on Child Online Protection” on Occasion of Safer Internet Day

In commemoration of Safer Internet Day 2024, a national workshop focusing on the role of media in children’s online protection was conducted. Hosted by Press Council Nepal on 23rd magh 2080, in collaboration with the National Child Rights Council, Nepal Telecommunication Authority, and coordinated by Net4Good Alliance, Voice of Children, and Creation Society Nepal, the event drew attention to crucial issues concerning online child safety.
Chairing the inaugural session, Press Council Chairman Balkrishna Basnet delivered the welcome address, followed by insightful speeches from Voice of Children Executive Director Krishna Kumar Thapa and Net4Good Alliance coordinator Nawaraj Dhakal hosted the event.
Distinguished guests, including Honorable Bhanubhakta Joshi, Chairman of the Education Health and Information Technology Committee of the Federal Parliament, Vice Chairman of the National Child Rights Council Bam Bahadur Baniya, Director of Nepal Telecommunication Authority Bijay Kumar Roy, Under Secretary of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Rajkumar Maharjan, Under Secretary of Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizen Sabita Aryal, and Dipesh Joshi from Nepal Police Cyber Bureau, graced the occasion.
The event witnessed active participation from representatives of various media and social organizations. Prof. Dr. Kundan Aryal and Chief Officer of Press Council Japindra Bhusal presented thought-provoking papers, while former president of Sancharika Samuha, journalist Neetu Pandit, and editor of Onlinekhabar Basant Basnet provided insightful commentary on the presentations.
